Taekwondo Canada’s October Outline

Posted on

The entire Taekwondo Canada staff has been busy with our first online event and upcoming projects.

We would also like to welcome the new volunteer Board members as well as thanking those returning members who continue to serve Taekwondo Canada in tremendous fashion. Thank you as well to the previous board members for their time and dedication.

The Taekwondo Canada Board of Directors is as follows:

  • Kee Ha – President
  • Wayne Mitchell – Vice President
  • Ken Anstruther – Secretary
  • Sandra De Montigny – Treasurer
  • Dave Mazzone – Director at Large
  • Jessica Scarlato – Director at Large
  • J-F Lebreux – Director at Large

NCCP

We continue to prioritize coach education by delivering online courses on a monthly basis. Master Barbara Marian delivered a Kyorugi Referee seminar designed especially for coaches on October 10. This allowed participants to fulfill the requirements for their NCCP certification.

We have now opened registration for the last PC workshop of the year. This workshop will be delivered in both official languages thanks to the collaboration of Master Carlos Amezcua as French language co-facilitator. Registration is available until November 12 at noon through our website.

It has been a big month for NCCP certification evaluations. Congratulations to all the coaches who have completed requirements to become certified. We have also updated the evaluation process to ensure more coaches get certified within a fixed timeline.

Coaches now have 1 year from the time they take their workshop to apply for evaluation; and 90 days to complete evaluation requirements from the day they apply for evaluation. Exceptions will be made for Covid related delays on requirements that can only be fulfilled in person. More details can be found on our website.

Taekwondo Committees

Please be advised that Taekwondo Canada will be sending out a request to the membership in the upcoming weeks to seek out those who might be interested in joining one of two committees:

  • Human Resources
  • Governance and Nominations

A formal call for applications will be sent out in the near future.

Kukkiwon

We continue to serve our membership, processing Kukkiwon certificates up to 7th Dan. As Kukkiwon has amended the requirements for 6th and 7th gradation, we have adjusted the application process accordingly. Please verify new requirements through our website and email kukkiwon@taekwondo-canada.com if you have any questions.

2021-2021 Taekwondo Canada Strategic Plan

The Strategic Planning Committee has now completed its draft of the organization’s new 2021-2024 plan. The Committee has done a tremendous job in developing the plan and utilizing the input of stakeholders. The plan is targeted for final approval prior to the end of the year

Website

The Taekwondo Canada staff is excited to announce the development of a new website to serve you better. The site is set to launch prior to the end of November and will present a number of new features which will be beneficial to the membership. We are looking forward to the launch of the new website, as well as the referee portal that will provide access to online referee training.

Korean Ambassadors Cup

Our first online Poomsae event was a success! We had over 240 registrations from 9 provinces. Taekwondo Canada would like to send a massive thank you to the amazing referees who gave up hours of their time to ensure the athletes had top quality judges for the event.

Online National Events

Taekwondo Canada is planning to host, not only the 2021 Poomsae National Championships as a live online event, but also the first Rec National Poomsae event in February 2021. This event will feature both teams and individual Poomsae for all ages and belts. We also anticipate running a demonstration competition at the same time. More information will be released through our website as soon as possible.

Club Excellence

Our new Club Excellence program will be rolled out this month. The program aims to recognize the clubs who strive to be involved in Taekwondo Canada programs, further the education of their instructors and students and who actively participate in supporting the organization.

HP Advisory Group

Applications are being accepted to be a part of Taekwondo Canada’s new High Performance Advisory Group (HPAG). This group will work with the High Performance Director (HPD) to provide advice and input as needed to the HPD on matters of selection, training and more.

Athlete Assistance Program (AAP)

Updates to the 2020 AAP and the new 2021 AAP criteria will be posted shortly.

Online Poomsae Worlds

World Taekwondo is running a G-2 Online World Poomsae championships in November. Athletes who had earned a place at the 2020 World Poomsae Championships originally scheduled for May have been registered for this event. Thank you to Dando Sports for supporting the team by providing uniforms.

Contests

In conjunction with our sponsor, Dando Sports, Taekwondo Canada has run two online contests this Fall. There are more contests to come! Make sure to jump on board with our social media to win free prizes!

Once again, thank you to all the members of our Taekwondo Canada family and as always, please do not hesitate to contact staff should you have any comments, questions or concerns.
